连词whether是一个常用和常考的词。通常它可以表示“是否；无论”。比如：He hesitated whether he should make one last attempt to save the man.他犹豫是否为救那人做最后一次努力。Well go on with the work, whether we can find the necessary tools.我们将继续工作，无论我们能否找到必要的工具。

有关whether的下面两种情况需要了解和掌握。

1.whether表示迟疑或两个可能性之间的选择，意思是“是否”。它可以与or连用。比如：

It's doubtful whether there'll be any seats left.看来未必还有座位。

Whether it turns out to be a good idea or a bad idea, we'll find out.最终这个点子是好还是坏，我们会搞清楚的。

This happens whether the children are in two-parent or one-parent families.这种情况无论在双亲家庭还是单亲家庭的孩子身上都会发生。

2.whether表示两种情况都真实，意思是“是……还是，不管……还是”。这时多与or not连用，or not放在句子末尾。比如：

It seems to me they want to get rid of me whether I’ve done anything wrong or not.看来他们是要排挤我，不管我是对是错。

You are entitled to a free gift whether you accept our offer of insurance or not.无论你接不接受我们的保险提议，你都可以免费得到一份礼物。

I'm going whether you like it or not.不管你愿意不愿意，我都要走了。
